ToggleWhat is Verruca?
Verruca, refers to a common type of wart that appears on the skin. It’s caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and can occur on various parts of the body, most commonly on the feet (known as plantar warts).
Verrucas on the feet can be painful, especially when walking or standing, as they grow inward due to pressure from walking. They often have a rough, grainy appearance with tiny black dots, which are small blood vessels clotted within the wart.
Is Verruca Easy to Treat?
Treatment for verrucas can vary.
- Some may resolve on their own over time as the body’s immune system fights off the virus. However, they can persist for months or even years.
- Over-the-counter treatments like salicylic acid applications or cryotherapy (freezing the wart) are common options.
In persistent cases, a doctor might recommend stronger treatments like prescription-strength medications or minor surgical procedures to remove the wart.
How to Remove the Verruca Root at Home
- Cover the wart with a strong adhesive like duct tape or a plaster for a few days.
- Remove the adhesive and soak the affected foot in warm, soapy water for about 10-15 minutes to soften the skin.
- Use a pumice stone or an emery board to gently file the wart’s surface. This helps to remove the dead skin on top of the verruca.
- Apply an over-the-counter product containing salicylic acid directly to the verruca. Follow the instructions on the product label carefully.
- Cover the verruca with a bandage or tape to prevent it from spreading and to protect it from contact with the surface.
- Repeat the soaking, filing, and application of salicylic acid regularly until the verruca disappears. It might take several weeks or even months for the wart to go away completely.
PS. You can also try various home wart freezing kits, but there really isn’t much consensus on their effectiveness
Remember, it’s essential to be patient with home treatments for verrucas as they may take time to show results. If the wart persists, causes severe pain, or spreads, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare professional for further treatment options.
