Welcome to My Little Home!

I’m Derrick, the founder and content writer behind this website.  At some point, I would love to own a house in Ireland during its most expensive housing crisis. The dream of owning an affordable home around Ireland’s commuter towns can feel out of reach, and I understand the frustration and challenges that come with it, because I experienced them too.

I’m not an expert in home construction or ownership. I’m just a guy that’s very interested in the current housing crisis and why it is the way it is. And now that I understand this crisis is not unique to Ireland, I am determined to research, simplify and share as much useful information as I can on Irish housing news and other alternatives to standard housing – all in the hopes that it could be useful to someone. 

By moving from Dublin to Co. Donegal, I was able to truly appreciate the scope and scale of this housing crisis. Every council is deeply affected. I also realised that though there is some information online on alternative housing in Ireland (modular, log cabins, tiny homes, etc), there isn’t much unique or organised information available online. That gave me the idea to also research, organise and provide all this information in one online space.

At this time, my ultimate goal is to convince the Irish State to create a clear legal framework for modular construction, MMC and alternative housing (i.e, tiny homes) – so that they can deliver more social homes reliably and faster.

I also like to investigate current Irish political, social, tech, and finance news and provide my opinion on how they could apply to the current Irish housing context.  I am also very open to interviewing and forming partnerships with local Irish builders, homeowners and craftsmen, so I can share their advice and insights with my readers.

Here at My Little Home, I don’t own any products (yet). I am simply on a mission to research, simplify and inform. However, you may find affiliate links in some blog posts. I believe that everyone deserves a chance at owning a home. Not as an investment, but as a basic necessity first. By sharing what I find, I hope that you can learn something new, and help others in return.
